Breaking the Salt Law

p>The Salt March of March–April 1930 was a defining act of Gandhi's Civil Disobedience Movement. Gandhi and a band of followers walked some 240 miles from the Sabarmati Ashram to the coastal village of Dandi, where on 6 April he broke the British salt monopoly by making salt from seawater.</p><p>The symbolic act inspired mass law-breaking across India and drew worldwide attention to the freedom struggle.</p>
