Raj Singh
Fifteenth ruler of Bikaner, March to April 1787. Eldest surviving son of Gaj Singh; died about a month after acceding, opening the succession crisis of 1787.
p>Raj Singh succeeded his father Gaj Singh on 25 March 1787 as the eldest surviving son, and was dead within about a month. The regnal list closes his reign on 25 April 1787.</p><p>Nothing is recorded of what he did with it. What matters is what his death set off: his six-year-old son Pratap Singh was crowned, with Raj Singh's younger brother Surat Singh installed as regent. Pratap Singh was dead by October.</p><p>Three rulers held the Bikaner gadi between March and October 1787, and the man left holding it was the regent — a sequence that contemporaries and later historians alike have found difficult to read as coincidence.</p>
