  • Bairam Khan served as regent and won the Second Battle of Panipat (1556)
  • Abolished the jizya tax on non-Muslims in 1564
  • Married a Rajput princess of Amber (Jodha Bai) in 1562 to forge Hindu-Muslim alliances
  • Founded the syncretic Din-i-Ilahi in 1582 and built the city of Fatehpur Sikri
  • Died 27 October 1605; buried at Sikandra, near Agra
